Garmin Forerunner 760: How do I close it when not in use?

I connected my Garmin now. I have the power cord from the cigarette lighter my Garmin. When I am home, I close out of the car. But an hour later, the Garmin was still light, even with the power cord from the cigarette lighter. I'm over the drainage of the car battery affected. Should I take the power cord if the Garmin battery is charged. How you use your Garmin?

I can not imagine it is drawing enough juice to make a difference.
