the use of GPS is the best for the long term?

I am looking for an updatable all one bike in gps m or can be used and that on a car / Will be and. I have TomTom 5 for a PDA, but can not use this software on a TomTom all in one? TomTom short sighted, as if I buy a cheaper Device that is 310, 510, I will again buy extra software. I know, search for alternatives.

If you're going to use it on the bike ya Tom Tom Rider (IThink) the only one that is waterproof. It has Bluetooth, etc etc, but I think its still quite expensive. Now it is in England! Cheers
