Portable ATSC TV tuner without Comcast Box?

I recently bought a Accurian 7 "Portable LCD. The TV comes with rabbit ears, but the reception was very bad. For the heck of it, I have my Comcast coaxial cable directly into the TV and I was surprised to hear that I was receiving every channel, including HD channels. I always thought you needed a Comcast HD box to be able to receive HD broadcasts, I was surprised it took nothing without a Comcast box, it all connected. What is this possible?

Your TV has both an ATSC (over the air HD) tuner and a QAM (cable HD) tuner. Comcast is not encrypting their QAM signal, so that your TV can decode it. Lucky You!
