Garmin Nuvi 250w GPS strange question important?

I deliver pizzas at night and I have a Garmin GPS from 5 months ago. Yesterday in the main menu, where it states: "Where to" and then "map" I clicked, where you will find the address, hit our State of Kansas and then to spell the city either by freezing or completely shuts down. Even if I try to click on Settings and go to other menus, it simply switches off. Why and how did this happen? has anyone got any Problems like this before? please help! Thank you!
