How does a GPS for my motorcycle wire?

I have a Garmin GPS with all factory parts, I would like to bare-wire of the 12-v cigarette power cord, and connect it to my bike, I think there are 4 cores in the 12V cable, as I put it? My preference would be to bring them to the motorcycle chase cable so it wil not drain the battery when the bike is turned off. will this work or is there too much power for the stock running light cable? Attaching a female 12v cigarette is an option, but I would prefer to hardwire the 12v male wite is that with any GPS.

You did not mention which model you have. I have a StreetPilot 2820, with the cigarette litter adapter comes with a speaker in it for the voice instructions. I'm assuming that's what you're talking about. There should be four wires, 2 for the speakers and 2 for power / ground. I would recommend hooking it directly to the accessory unit on the bike so when you turn the ignition switch of the GPS also. You also have the backup for accessories, which it protected.
